Project Overview

Role: Construction Engineering and Inspection Services

M&J Engineering (M&J) performed construction engineering and inspection services for CTDOT (Project No. 095-0255) for the construction of a new maintenance facility and the demolition of the existing facility in the Town of New Milford. This project consisted of the construction of a new single-story CTDOT maintenance facility comprising vehicle maintenance bays, vehicle wash bays, a traveling crane system, and offices for CTDOT personnel. The building was comprised mainly of steel frame construction with exterior metal panel siding and masonry walls. Construction included the installation of a building automation system for the sequence of operations for electrical and HVAC monitoring systems.

Enhancements to site work included regrading for stormwater runoff, a new drainage system, installation of new utilities, and a new detention basin. Following the construction of the facility structure, additional improvements included the installation of new pavement for site parking, pavement markings, a retaining wall with stairs, and turf establishment. Site improvements also included the installation of exterior site lighting, curbing, fencing, and a new canopy over the existing fuel island.

This project involved working with and managing the disposal of polluted soils sitewide. Hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos required abatement during the demolition of the existing facility. The motor fuel-oil tank and oil-water separator were disposed of and replaced. A new backup generator for the facility was installed.

This project was awarded the 2023 Building Project – Under $25 Million by CMAA Connecticut Chapter.
