Project Overview

Role: Prime, Construction Management Services

M&J Engineering D.P.C. (M&J) is providing construction management services for the rehabilitation of Cutter Mill Road/Bayview Bridge over the Long Island Railroad in the Village of Great Neck Plaza. The proposed project is to rehabilitate the entire bridge to improve safety and update the existing infrastructure. Cutter Mill Road/Bayview Bridge, one of the prominent gateways into the Great Neck Plaza community from Northern Boulevard, runs over the Long Island Railroad, Port Washington branch between the Great Neck and Little Neck stations. The Port Washington branch services over 14 million riders annually and is one of the direct connections from Northern Queens to Manhattan.

Over time, the bridge has deteriorated; in order to maintain compliance and safety, the bridge is in need of full repair. The repairs will include removal and replacement of existing wearing asphalt and deck repairs; removal and replacement of the existing deck to change the structure to a jointless bridge; removal and replacement of the approach slabs; removal and replacement of the existing abutment steel plate bearings with new elastomeric bearings; modification or replacement of existing bearing pedestals; removal and replacement of abutment backwalls at both abutments; and crack repairs to existing concrete piers and reconstruction of the abutment face.

This project requires frequent coordination with the MTA and LIRR agencies to allow for worker access and safety. M&J’s engineering services include site assessments; erosion and sediment quality assurance; project control; an engineer’s estimate; construction management and inspection; EHS; change orders; CPM scheduling; permitting; closeout; punch lists; and as-built surveys.
