Project Overview

M&J Engineering as Prime consultant performed resident engineering inspection services for the reconstruction of Morrison Avenue Plaza in the borough of the Bronx (HWPLZ004X). The project involved the creation of a new permanent community asset at Morrison Avenue Plaza to improve safety, improve sustainability, and ensure the most effective use of the public right-of-way in the Soundview area.

The work included roadway reconstruction, installation of raised crosswalks, installation of bus stops, replacement of the aged cast iron water mains to improve water distribution in the project area, installation of new combined sewers, construction of plaza including amenities (installation of a double-check valve (RPZ) water fountain, utility service lines for the future kiosk; provision of decorative lights, chairs, and benches), installation of Rain Gardens, installation of ADA compliant ramps, and street lighting work. The project also included protecting three 80+-year-old oak trees, and planting ground covers and shrubs.

M&J’s responsibilities included inspection, supervision, management, coordination, and administration of the project to ensure that the required construction work was properly executed, completed in a timely fashion, and conformed to the requirements of the construction documents and good construction practice. M&J provided the required services for the duration of the project (i.e., pre-construction, construction, and post-construction).

This project was completed on time and within budget and received a 2023 ACEC Engineering Excellence Silver Award in the category of Category I: Special Projects.
